Manifestation: Why getting what you want requires more than willpower and positive thinking

When you’re trying to manifest something, it’s quite easy to get caught up in the loose definition of the word and the new age commercial appeal. People ask, “How do I manifest money? How do I manifest a car? How do  manifest my dream job?”

When I first became aware of the Law of Attraction and manifestation, even I asked those questions! But as I learned more, I quickly realized there is way more to it than positive thinking.

With regards to manifestation, the first thing to be aware of is what manifestation actually is:

"Essentially, manifestation is bringing something tangible into your life through attraction and belief, i.e. if you think it, it will come. However, there is more to manifestation than willpower and positive thinking. Manifesting is making everything you want to feel and experience a reality... via your thoughts, actions, beliefs, and emotions."

We are creators. Whether we know it or not, we are continuously in a state of creation and manifestation…sometimes to our detriment.

For example, losing my house was not something I wanted to experience. However, during the time that led up to the foreclosure, I consistently held in my mind thoughts of losing the house and harbored feelings of fear and dread until it showed up in my reality.

Scientists have shown there is a field of energy that we are a part of. Knowing our thoughts are electric and our emotions are magnetic, when we react strongly with emotion, either positive or negative, we affect this field of energy.

With this awareness we get clear on what we’re already creating and then move to establish a more authentic intention for our creations.

When we’re clear on what it is we want to create, to manifest, we can begin to visualize the outcome – the thing – and feel into it to the best of our ability.

We have conversations about it, we tell select people about it, we think about it and feel into the energy of the possibilities even if the vastness of it escapes us. We begin to give energy to it and within that energy a shift takes place within us. The shift allows us to feel more expansive and within expansion is the ability to receive – to be open and receptive to tiny miracles that start happening and situations and outcomes manifesting in ways we could not have planned.

When we keep our thoughts and emotions on the highest outcome (what we can feel into), and make a sincere effort to become the quality of what we want to create, in this state of being what we desire is then reflected back to us in unexpected ways.

In short, “you cannot have what you are not willing to become.”

With this in mind, the question is not solely ‘how do I manifest?’ but instead: How do I become?
